And pulled out the real issue - the strategy and lack of focus. You're so right. It's well known that if you want someone to act, you need to limit their options. Giving total freedom of action and expression like this just doesn't work. As well as that they're making the mistake of expecting the people to give enough of a shit to get involved. That won't work either. Instead, they need to show that they give a shit about the people. And why would anyone want to join another social network?
